Microsoft Defender for Cloud Apps

Microsoft Defender for Cloud Apps delivers Cloud and SaaS Application discovery and protection, helping customers identify, monitor and protect their cloud apps and cloud app data.  Defender for Cloud Apps also shows risks to your environment from SaaS app usage, and gives control of what’s being used and when.  Defender also identifies the hosting provider of your Cloud and SaaS Applications, so you know which providers underpin the SaaS applications you depend upon.

The CI Synchronizer connector for Defender for Cloud Apps allows organisations to manage Cloud Applications in their ServiceNow CMDB by synchronizing Cloud Apps as Business Application CIs.  Optionally, CI Synchronizer can also create relationships between User records (in the ServiceNow User Table) and the Business Application CIs.

This functionality provides CIOs, Application Owners and Service Managers to rapidly improve visibility of Cloud and SaaS Applications, and drive actionable outcomes.

Generate Business Applications from Defender Cloud Applications
CI Sync automatically creates and maintains Business Applications in your CMDB from Cloud and SaaS Apps discovered in Microsoft Defender.

A range of attributes are populated including the hosting location, hosting provider, Defender Risk Score and many compliance and security related metrics determined by Defender.

The Business Applications created by CI Sync support CSDM style dependency mapping between Infrastructure CIs, Business Applications and up to Business Services.
Understand Which Users Actively Use Which Business Applications
CI Synchronizer can automatically link users to the Business Application CIs. This allows organizations to visualise which users are actively using which Business Applications, which is critical during outages of an individual application or an entire hosting provider.

It can be hosted in most/all Azure Regions globally (it is still hosted/managed/maintained by Syncfish, but the customer decides which geography it is physically located in).

No. The source asset data (read from the relevant source system by one of the CI Synchronizer connectors) is transited through your dedicated CI Synchronizer instance then deleted after it’s been processed into ServiceNow.
